Pakistani Bridal Dress and Kundan Jewellery Guide: Choosing for Every Event

A Pakistani wedding is not one event; it is a season. Each function has its own mood, and the outfit and jewellery should match it. Here is a simple guide to planning your looks, whether you are the bride, the bride's sister or a guest.

Mehndi: colour and comfort

Mehndi is about dancing, so choose movement over weight. Yellows, greens, oranges and pinks work beautifully. A lehenga with a lighter can-can, a gharara or a flared lawn or cotton-silk frock keeps you comfortable for hours. Pair it with gota or floral jewellery and light jhumkas.

Baraat: the traditional red

For the baraat, most brides still choose red, maroon or deep pink in velvet, raw silk or tissue, with heavy zardozi, dabka and tilla work. Look for:

  • A properly finished can-can and lining (check the description, not only the photo).
  • A dupatta that matches the shirt in weight — a heavy shirt with a flimsy dupatta looks unbalanced in photos.
  • Delivery time. Many bridal pieces are made to order and take two to four weeks.

Browse our formal and bridal collection and always check the delivery time on the product page.

Walima: soft and elegant

Walima looks are usually lighter: champagne, pastel pink, ivory, silver or ice blue, in organza, tulle or net with pearl and sequin work. A gown or a long tail maxi is popular now. Keep the jewellery delicate — a single statement necklace or polki earrings.

Nikkah: simple and timeless

Nikkah outfits lean towards white, ivory and gold, often with a sharara or a straight long shirt. A pearl mala or a light Kundan choker is all you need.

Choosing Kundan and polki jewellery

Kundan is a traditional technique where glass or stones are set in gold foil. Polki uses uncut diamonds; most affordable pieces use polki-style stones. When buying online:

  • Check the base metal and plating (for example, "22k gold-plated brass").
  • Look at the back of the piece — good sets have neat meenakari or a smooth finish.
  • Confirm what is included: necklace, earrings, tikka, jhoomar and rings are often sold separately.

Shop the jewellery collection and store pieces in a dry pouch with silica gel so the plating lasts.

Shoes and clutches

Do not leave footwear to the last day. Embellished heels or khussa should be broken in at home first. An embroidered clutch holds your phone, lipstick and a few safety pins — the real wedding essentials.
